I HAVE ALWAYS ASKED MY SELF WHEATHER THIS ASANTEHENE IS A KING, I WILL SAY YES BECAUSE IF YOU GO BACK TO HISTORY YOU WILL FIND THIS TO BE TRUE, EVERYONE HAS HEARD AND READ ABOUT THE ASHANTI KINGDOM, HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OR READ ABOUT ANY OTHER KINGDOMIN GHANA BEFORE? NO, THEREFOR HE IS A KING,THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE ASANTEHENE IS THAT HE HAS MADE HIMSELF TOO PUBLIC, ESPECIALLY WHEN AN ASHANTI PRESIDENT IS ON POWER, SO EVERY MOVE HE MAKES BECOMES ABOVE THE LAW MOVE, I HOPE THAT THE OTUMFOUR WOULD MINIMIZE HIS TV APPEARANCE, EXAMPLE HERE IN THE UK YOU DONT SAY PRINCE CHARLES OR QUEEN ELIZABERTHON TV TRYING TO MAKE A NAME, THEY ALREADY HAVE THE ROYAL TITLE BUT THE OTUMFOUR SEEMS LIKE HE APPEAR IN PUBLIC TO TRY TO BY A NAME.

THE ASANTEHENE AS HE IS,IS A KING BY ALL STANDARDS.HE IS THE ONLY TRADITIONAL RULER WITH OTHER PARAMOUNT CHIFES UNDER HIM.HE IS ALSO THE ONLY TRADITIONAL RULER WHO IS THE AUTOMATIC PRESIDENT OF THE REGIONS HOUESE OF CHIEF. HE AGAIN IS THE ONLY CHIEF TO ELIVATE OR REDUCE IN RANK ANY PARAMOUNT STOOL IN ASHANTI AND BEYOND. THERE IS NO OTHER CHIEF WITH SUCH POWERS IN GHANA.ALL PARAMOUNT CHIFES IN ASHANTI ARE UNDER HIS AUTHOURITY. INDEED THE ASANTA HENE IS A KING AND NOT ANY OTHER CHIEF.GOING BACK IN HISTORY,IT WAS NOT AFTER THE YAA ASANTEWAA WAR BEFORE THE ASHANTIS CAME UNDER THE BRITISH RULE IN THE THEN GOLD COAST.IT USED TO BE THE COLONY AND ASHANTI. Please Anan the topic under discusion is not into politics.No one is above the law in Ghana not even the president of Ghana.If the Otumfuor comits a crime he will be treated just like any other criminal.And take note that the Ashanti Kingdom was well established before the advent of the prez.Kuffuor govt. and after the term of office of prez. Kuffuor the Ashanti kingdom will still be there.kindly lets discuss issues and not add other things to it

the asantehene is not a king but a chief, in every country that there are kings or queens it states them in their constitution and also give explaination of their authority, there is nothing in the Ghana constitution that mention that the asantehene is a king, for the fact that there are many ashanti chief under him doesnt mean he is a king,may be a senior chief would be a perfect title for him

the asantehene is indeed a King and not a Chief, I am not an ashanti but history alone proves the asantehene to be the only living King in ghana, so eric go and check your history book and you will come out with the evidence that the asantehene is a king, and also as a reminder the ashanti kingdom was there before even ghana was founded

Is there any constitution in Ghana that defines who and what make somebody a King? The idea that he has paramount chiefs under him does not ring a bell, as far as I am concerned. I would be glad to know what really makes him a King and not a chief, and why not those in the northern regions of Ghana.

I have always admire the otumfour,but I must say he is not a king, in countries like England, Thauland, Spain and Japan there you will find what you call kings and queens, and they have constitutional powers, unlike the asantehene who just uses the media to try to make name

the asantehene is not a king period, he might be a chief, a chief who joined hands with kufour to cut off yaa na's head, he is just trying to have the people of ghana to believe he is a king, what hurts me the most is when he travels abroad to america and europe and claims to be the king of ghana, the gov must speak to him to stop making those claims cus it's a disgrace to ghana when a criminal drug dealer like the asantehene goes round the globe and claim to be king of ghana, foolish man

The Asantehene is the King of Asantes and not of Ghana. Those who are not Asantes should not bother because he is not their King, but that does not mean they can just insult him. The Asantehene was not enthroned by the Kufour government. Kufour rules, but the Asantehene reigns. Kufours term office is prescribed by our constitution and he leaves in two years. The Asantehene however will remain till he dies.
Ghana belongs to all of us, whether the President is from our tribe or not. We should learn to respect our traditional institutions.

Will you guys leave Asantes alone? Your insults will not and cannot destroy Asantes in any way. You better work on yourselves and building an image for yourselves. You are so tribalistic that you cannot even see that it does no good to Ghana.
We are no marrying across tribes therefore the issue of tribe is less relevant these days.
You guys should not worry, and I don't even see why you should. The Asantehene is not your King if you are not an Asante. He is the King of Asantes, but not of Ghana. The constitution has got nothing to do with this, folks. Also remember, it is not Kufour who enstooled him. It just mere considence that Kufour is in power in his time. If Adjaho becomes president tomorrow, the Asantehene will still be King.

Every King has his stlye of ruling and therefore if the former ASHANTEHENE didn't like publicity, what makes it wrong for the current one to like it? Well, Ashantis are not asking U to recognise Asantehene as King. They don’t even want the whole people of your tribe or town to do so. It will be disgrace for them to see U and your people singing the same praise as that of Queen Elizabeth and her people.
Rawlings, Fidel Castro, Abacaha, etc all recognised the Asantehene as King. Did I mention Gaddafi, Kuanda and Mugabe? Now U may not respect these guys since most people see them as cowards, murderers, thieves, etc. that is besides the argument.
Pope, US govt, British govt, Sultan of Sokoto, etc all do give the due respect to the Asantehene. Now, do U see why the Ashantis may not like the idea of U singing the same songs as these people. Your whole tribe may be wiped off from the face of the earth without a cry from even Human Rights organisation.
When U hop into a truck in Accra to go to your village, be extra careful in your conversation. When U get to your village, ask your village chief whether he knows what is called Diplomatic status.

prosper let me correct you, this people you mentioned dont recognize the asantehene as a king, rather it is the kufuor administration that want the intenational community to recognize him as a king cus he is from kumasi

Lady BB I dont know you but have to agree with you, the gov discriminates against other chiefs in the country, they seem to treat the asntehene as if he is a king but he is not, he is in the same class as yaa na, and the Ga mantse, I know it hurts, but it's the fact, may be we can call him the chief of chiefs... ha ha ha

In retrospect, Chieftaincy is the only form of royal practice performed in Ghana since time memorial until current. So this is what determines the call of title. So the answer to your question is, the Asantehene is and should fall under the title of a chief just like other tribes in Ghana and thus fair to say.

Where should i even begin,well CHIEF is the appropriate tittle for the ASANTEHENE.Am with the fact that a KING is a tittle used for a ruler of a WHOLE KINGDOM so let say GHANA.He does rule just one region in Ghana not even up to half,half is even enough,so how can he be called a KING,OH JUST SPARE US THAT.Every other region with their chiefs also have great history they also cherish so the asantes should not be so optimistic with their history and go too far to call their chief a king after all he is not ruling the whole of Ghana and even he cant.
