Carpenter, 54 Defiles 11 Year-Old Niece
KOTEY NEEQUAYE, a 54-year-old carpenter has found himself in the grips of the law for defiling his 11-year-old niece.
The accused person, who was arraigned in an Accra Circuit Court, was reported to have defiled his niece on three occasions and threatened to harm her if she disclosed her ordeal to anyone.
He pleaded not guilty to defilement and has been granted bail while the matter has been adjourned to March 6, 2008.
Prosecuting, ASP George Abavelim told the court that the victim, an 11-year-old class five pupil, lived with her uncle, the accused person and mother at La, a suburb of Accra.
He said on January16, 2008 at about 9:30 pm, the mother of the victim, who is the complainant in the case, entered the room of the victim but did not find her asleep so she called other girls she shared the room with to ask of her whereabouts.
According to the prosecutor, when the accused person, who had called the victim to his room and finished satisfying himself heard his sister asking of her daughter’s whereabouts, he told her she was asleep in his room and that she should come and take her to her room.
He explained that when the mother brought the victim to her bed to sleep, she detected a whitish substance running down her thighs and consequently became suspicious that her daughter might have been defiled.
Mr. Abavelim said the complainant then called her mother, who is the victim’s grandmother, to be a witness to what she had seen before confronting the accused person. The accused, when confronted, denied doing anything to the victim but the girl, upon interrogation, admitted having been defiled.
Explaining further, the prosecuting officer said the complainant subsequently reported the matter to the police and a form was issued for the victim to be taken to the hospital for medical examination.
The victim’s mother, he continued, mobilized family members who managed to apprehend the accused person and took him to the police station and he was subsequently hauled before court after police investigations. source: D Guide
