Mills Caught In Big Lie – Searchlight
On Friday, Professor Atta Mills told members of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) that the NPP government, as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, gave out ridiculous amounts of contract to a few relatives and friends of those in government to import all the requirements so that their families could get wealthier whilst textile factories collapse and jobs are lost. But after making this fantastic claim, it has now turned out that the Mills campaign team are not prepared to provide an iota of proof to show that the NPP government gave out contracts to a “few relatives and friends of those in govenemnt”.
Yesterday, one of his spokespersons, Mr. Koku Anyidoho, said that he could not speak on the issue and referred this newspaper to Mr. Mahama Ayariga, Professor Atta Mills’ official spokesperson. Repeated calls and even text messages left on Mr. Ayariga’s phone detailing the urgency of the matter did not elicit a response for over four hours.
He had still not called as we went to press at 7pm yesterday. Speaking to members of the AGI on Friday, Professor Atta Mills said in direct quote; “I was surprised by the behaviour of our own government when our Golden Jubilee celebration required simple products such as textiles, flags and similar paraphernalia to be manufactured for the occasion. Instead of providing resources in a planed manner to our local industry to manufacture over a period, so that we can even showcase industrial capacity as part of our celebration of independence, the NPP government rather gave out ridiculous amounts of contract for a few relatives and friends of those in government to import all the requirements so that their families could get wealthier while textile factories collapse and jobs are lost”.
Yesterday, our simple question to Mr. Koku Anyidoho on who these relatives and friends of those in government are could not get a response, whilst the official spokesperson, Mr. Mahama Ayariga, remained completely unreachable, even by his personal phone, which rang repeatedly, but which he refused to pick.
