TTB Is Best Bank

The Trust Bank (TTB Ghana Limited, which has the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) as its largest shareholder, was over the weekend adjudged the best bank for the year 2007 at the 7th Ghana Banking Awards.

The financial intermediary which is the second indigenous bank to have won the award since Merchant Bank did it in 2003, performed well in six of the 16 categories as it received the best bank prize for Corporate Banking.

It also placed second in the Short Term Loan Financing, Long Term Loan Financing as well as Product innovation and third in Competitive Pricing categories.

Closely following the heels of TTB was CAL Bank, also an indigenous bank, which clinched 4 out of the 16 awards up for grabs.

It obtained the best in IT and Electronic Banking, Long Term Loan Financing and Product Innovation awards.

It also swept an award in Retail Banking where it placed second in that category.

Another indigenous bank, Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB was also not left out of the race as it won the best in Financial Performance, Most Socially Responsible, and Trade Financing.

First Atlantic Merchant Bank, another local bank, was not left out of contention as it won the best in Customer Care and Short Term Loan Financing.

Last year’s winner, Ecobank Ghana Limited also won awards in Advisory Services and Retail Banking.

But missing in action was Merchant Bank Ghana Limited which in 2006 won many awards, creating the impression that it should have won the best bank award for that year.

Similarly, Barclays Bank which also did well in previous outings did not win any award for 2007 though its sister bank, Stanchart won some awards.

On the other hand, the Nigerian large shareholding banks also failed to impress as only Zenith and Amalbank placed second each in Customer Care and Growing Bank, against better performances in 2006.

Fidelity Bank, a new local bank, won the Growing Bank of the year.
Commenting on the historic performance to CITY & BUSINESS GUIDE, Isaac Owusu-Hemeng, Managing Director of TTB said the vintage performance was due to the Customer Relation Management programme it designed during the year under review.

“TTB has vigorously pursued the ambition of becoming a preferred specialist bank providing excellent quality customer service to our target customers such as Corporate, Commercial, Retail and Institutional customers.

This objective was underpinned by a multi-faceted strategy including excellent customer service delivery at attractive income levels”.

Meanwhile, Dr. Paul Acquah, Governor of the Bank of Ghana has received a special citation for the innovative financial regulations he introduced into the system
